Doula Services

I’m currently not taking doula clients until further notice. I will continue to offer postpartum support packages, placenta encapsulation and childbirth education classes.

Prenatal

The more you can prepare and educate yourself for the labor and birth process, the more you will know what to expect and what your options are when things don’t go to plan (and they will!). My goal in our prenatal visits is getting to know each other and creating a bond that will extend into the birth.

In addition to getting to know each other, we will discuss what you would like out of your birth process and what my role is so that both of us are comfortable when the day comes!

As part of the doula package, I include three prenatal visits.  The first visit will cover your expectations and hope for the birth so that we can go into the birth process knowing exactly what you want to happen.  We will also discuss alternatives and options for you when things don’t go to plan.  The second visit will be closer to your due date and a check-in to make sure everything is in place for your upcoming birth and go over comfort measures for the labor and birth. You’ll be left with tools and knowledge to help ease comfort during the last weeks of birth as your body prepares for labor. The third visit will be focusing on postpartum planning including setting expectations for daily care, relationship shifts and preparing your home for your return from the hospital.

Currently, I’m open to doing these visits in-person, with a mask and social distanced if you are comfortable. Otherwise we can do these all virtually.

Labor and Birth

I will be with you during the whole process!  Providing physical and emotional support, as well as sharing knowledge about the options you are given by medical professionals.  A doula provides continuous support regardless of how a birther has decided to give birth.  The doula will be the one person in the room, besides the partner, that will be there the entire time.

During labor, there are a lot of options for comfort and help the birther get through contractions and delivery. As a doula, I will utilize massage and physical touch to help calm the birther. The emotional and mental state of the birther can have a huge impact on the birthing experience and as your doula, you can count on me to provide a soft voice of encouragement, reassurance and understanding. In addition, you and your partner will be met with a lot of options as you move through the labor.  I will share information so that you can advocate for yourself and make decisions on what is the best decision for YOU and your baby.

There is a myth that a doula is only present at a home birth.  Not true!  Doula’s support is needed in every birth situation, especially at the hospital and that includes inductions and cesareans. Doulas can help create a peaceful atmosphere including music, lighting and other sounds the facilitate a more comfortable birthing experience.

Currently, some hospitals are allowing doulas to be at the birth. This is completely up to your comfort level. I can offer virtual assistance where I am available by phone, text or video during your labor and birth so that I can offer the support you need.

Postpartum

As exciting as it is to leave the hospital and head home with your newborn, it can be very scary and overwhelming.  With my help, it doesn’t have to be! As part of the doula package, I include one postpartum visit. You can add more visits and I’ll be there for a few hours in the days that follow the birth to provide a few healthy fresh-cooked meals and support around the house.

You might be lucky enough to have family and friends who will be with you once you return home.  If you don’t, or even if you do, a postpartum doula can provide an additional level of support that allows you to recover and bond with your baby. This type of support will look different for each mother but could include:

  • Emotional support and check-in

  • Breastfeeding/chestfeeding support

  • Light housekeeping

  • Assistance with newborn care so mother is able to shower or sleep.

  • Sibling care

  • Meal preparation

  • Helping to connect with local resources

Eventually, I will be pursuing certification as a lactation consultant!

Doula Pricing

My rate will be $1,000. The flat rate includes three prenatal visits (at least one in-person), attendance during your labor and birth, and one postpartum visit.  I also will arrange for a backup doula in case there are any emergencies that might come up and you will have the opportunity to meet them.

If you would like additional postpartum doula services, the rate is $50 for a two-hour visit. Each visit also includes a nutritious meal for you and your family to enjoy based on your dietary preferences.

Although I do not accept insurance directly, please check with your insurance company to see if doula services are covered by your flexible spending account (FSA) or health savings account (HSA).  I’ll happily provide any documentation that is necessary for you to submit reimbursement.

I’d love to speak with you about your wants and needs during one of life’s most important moments – the birth of a child.  My goal is to make doula services affordable and accessible to all so please reach out if you are in financial need and I’d be happy to work with you.
