Calmness.

I start with that word because I feel that it represents me as a person and is one of the greatest assets a doula can bring to a birth. My name is Emily and I currently reside in Glens Falls, NY. I grew up in the Midwest, spent time working abroad in New Zealand and Australia, before starting my career in Chicago, where I lived for 10 years. I’ve traveled extensively and learned from each and every one of my trips. Birthwork has always interested me and I’m thankful for friends and family who have encouraged me to start the journey.

I’ve been working in higher education for the past 13 years. My positions have focused on managing, advising and leading study abroad students and programs. This might seem far from birthwork but there are so many characteristics that extend into birthwork including patience, flexibilty, cultural understanding and respect for differences.

Training

It’s extremely important to me to continually learn and grow as a birth work professional. I aim to participate in workshops and training that respect the culture and recognize differences in the maternal world. There is always new information and I’ll always be looking to expand my knowledge.
